How Muslims Interpret PEACE and JIHAD? page 2

So what does “jihad” mean?

In Arabic language, the word jihad literally means striving and working hard for something. In Islamic terminology, it retains the literal meaning in two different dimensions, which are expressed by “major jihad” and “minor jihad”.
The major jihad is known as the spiritual struggle, a struggle between two powers within ourselves: the soul and the body. The conscience is in conflict with the bodily desires. This spiritual conflict is an ongoing jihad within each one of us. Islam expects its followers to give preference to the soul and the conscience over the body and its desires.
The fasting in the month of Ramadhan is an example of the annual training for this major jihad.
The minor jihad is the armed struggle. However, that does not automatically mean unjustified use of violence. The minor jihad may be divided into two: aggression and defense. Aggression against any people is not permitted in Islam; however, defense is an absolute right of every individual and nation.

Islam has allowed the minor jihad only to defend the Muslim people and their land, and to maintain peace in Muslim societies.

Jihad in the Qur’an

The Initial Verses

Let us now go to some verses from the Qur’an.
The first battle fought by the Prophet and his followers was a war of defense. It is known as the Battle of Badr, a place that is near the city of Medina (the Prophet’s city in Arabia). This was a battle in which the Prophet came with his followers to face the enemy force that had come all the way from Mecca that was still controlled by the infidels.
The first verse of the minor jihad, the armed struggle, revealed at that time is in Chapter 22, Surah Al-Hajj, of the Qur’an, verses 39-40. It clearly explains the purpose of the minor jihad:

“Permission is granted to those who are fighting because they have been oppressed…those who have been expelled from their homes without any just cause…” (Surah al-Hajj, 22:39-40)

Again, referring to the non-believers of Mecca who waged war after war against the Prophet and his followers in Medina, the Qur’an in Chapter 2, Surah al-Baqara, verse 190, says:

“Fight in the way of God those who are fighting against you; and do not exceed (the limits). Verily Allah does not love those who exceed (the limits).”  (Surah al-Baqara, 2:190)
In this verse, the talk is about responding to a war by defending yourself; there is no talk of initiating aggression at all. Even in the defensive mode of struggle, Almighty God warns the Muslims that they should not “exceed” beyond the proper limits.
Islam teaches that Muslims should be strong in order to defend themselves, but that does not mean they have to become aggressive and unjust. In Chapter 8, Surah al-Anfal, verses 60-61 of the Qur’an, God has provided this general guidance very clearly when He addresses Muslims in the following way:

“Prepare against them (i.e., the enemy) with whatever force and trained horses you can in order to frighten thereby Allah’s enemy, your enemy, and others besides them who you do not know but Allah knows them.” (Surah al-Anfal, 8:60)
After giving this general guidance of being strong and prepared to defend ourselves, the verse goes on:

“But if they (the enemies) incline to peace, then you (also) incline to it, and put your trust in Allah…” (Surah al-Anfal, 8:61)
In short, Islam wants Muslims to be strong so that others would not bully them; but then they have to extend the hand of peace even towards their enemies if there is an inclination of peace on the enemy’s part.

The Problem of Text & Context

Some writers and speakers quote the Qur’anic verses out of context and try to blame Islam for promoting violence and terrorism. They take a “text” and use it outside its “context”.
It is just like someone searches through the Bible and picks the following words or sentences to prove that the Bible promotes violence:

“Take all the leader of these people, kill them.” (Numbers 25:7)
“Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.” (Numbers 31:17-18)
“Kill every male and every woman who is not a virgin.” (Judges 21:11)

No fair-minded person will accept such “out of context” presentation of the Biblical verses. Yet we see many Christian evangelists and missionaries do exactly the same to the Qur’an without any hesitation.
So let us look at some examples of taking the Qur’anic “text” outside its “context”.

First Example

Chapter 2 (Surah al-Baqara), verse 191 is quoted as follows:

MISTAKES IN TRANSLATIONS

MISTAKES IN TRANSLATIONS:

Classical and pre-classical Arabic language is based on root words and it is different from traditional or Modern Arabic. In classical Arabic every word contains different root word and from it derives a chain of many derivative words but the meaning/essence of root word is present in all the derivative words. If we don’t find the essence of the meaning from the root word in any derivative word then the chain of meanings is broken on which the classical Arabic language is based.

It has been observed that the key “Quranic” words like Allah, Rabb, Salat, Zakat, Saum, Sajda, Quran, Kitab, Ibadat, Allah, Rasul, Nisa, Rajul, Bashar, Qatal and many others have been widely misunderstood by the vast majority of our intelligentsia. The result is that we have missed out on the valuable “Quranic” information, whose purpose was to guide and develop the human race without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, or language. The job of retracing the lost or misunderstood words due to lapse of time is grueling, as it’s not easily available in dictionaries and lexicons, sometimes we have to take the overall view of the topic and the context of the subject. Anyone, who has the knowledge of Arabic grammar, can do just superficial translation which can make little or no sense. But justice to the translation can only be done if the translator knows the subject which he has undertaken otherwise superficial translation is like a Phd in English language is teaching chemistry and that case the English teacher won't be able to do justice to the subject of chemistry only because he is good in English.

The subject of Quran is human psychology [Nafs]. Psychiatric disorder [mental disorder] is the biggest disease in the world and Quran is the best and simplest book on this subject. In my opinion "Muslims" are the biggest victim of this mental disease and religious fanaticism is one of its form. Although its common mental disorders which can effect anyone, among all depression is the biggest, which affects about 400 million, dementia which affects about 35 million, and schizophrenia, which affects about 21 million people globally. Stigma and discrimination can add to the suffering and disability associated with mental disorders, leading to various social movements attempting to increase understanding and challenge social exclusion. This is why Quran repeatedly asserts that it is an guide and criterion for agitated mind [Al-Naas].

Any person who is good in English as well as in psychology can do justice while doing the translation of the Quran. But if the translators have some preconceived notion and insist that the Quran is a guide towards historical personalities and in their struggle is a lesson for us is just consoling himself. Some study Quran to find scientific discoveries to prove its divinity and others emphasizes on performance of certain rituals or some think about establishing Paradise on earth. With such preconceived mental set-up one is not eligible to translate the Quran, howmuch ever he/she is expert in Arabic language. The translator should wipe out all preconceived notions and should translate the Quran only on the merit of the classical Arabic words, grammar and the context, then only the spirit of the Quranic message will touch the entire mankind. Otherwise the poor Quran will remain untouchable as only those who are free from preconceived ideologies can touch it [56:77-79].

Some Mistakes in translations:

1) Example:

The root word علم [alam] means he knew – ilm, talim, maulim, Aalim, Alim, Allama, Uloom, Maaloom, Ulema…

The meaning of every derivative word should contain the basic essence of the root word as they belong to the same family. If there is change in the meaning we can easily detect the corruption or distortion in the meaning. For example the word الْعَالَمِينَ [Aalameen] is the derivative of root word علم but in traditional or modern Arabic it is translated as Worlds whereas its meaning should be all the Knowledge. This is a clear cut distortion because the essence of the root word is missing from the final meaning.

2) Example:

The root word شهر [shahar] the meanings of which are apparent, manifest, notable, commonly known, famous, proclaim, notorious, New moon, lunar month, drew his sword from its scabbard,

The commonly known derivatives of Shahar are Mashoor, Shaurat, Ashraan, Ashaar, Ishtehaar...

The Evolutionary stage of Al-Hajj is called manifestation [ashur] of Knowledge and information [malomaat] الْحَجُّ أَشْهُرٌ مَّعْلُومَاتٌ – 2:197 - But sadly our interpreters translate it as well known month. Here the word Maloomat is translated as well known whereas its meaning is knowledge and information.

There so many examples where the chain of meaning is broken from the root word just to suit the thinking of the interpreters.

Usually the Quranic context is decided by the preconceived notions, then the meaning of the word is chosen to justify that notion or ideology. But there should be a checking instrument to verify whether the assumed ideology is beneficial for entire mankind or not. Any belief or book which claims to be for entire mankind and if it does not cater to the need of entire mankind then its proclamation is a hollow one, regardless how many people love it.

There is not a single translation of the Quran in my knowledge that can pass through this test where its teaching can be applicable to the entire mankind, that should even include the people living in the jungles.

MANASIK

مَنْسَكًا

The trilateral root nūn sīn kāf (ن س ك) occurs seven times in the Quran, in three derived forms:

Four times as the noun mansak (مَنسَك)

Twice as the noun nusuk (نُسُك)

Once as the active participle nāsikū (نَاسِكُو)

Noun

(2:128:11) manāsikanā          our direction of devotion     وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

(2:200:3) manāsikakum        directed your devotion          فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُمْ مَنَاسِكَكُمْ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ

(22:34:4) mansakan    a direction of devotion وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنْسَكًا لِيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُمْ

(22:67:4) mansakan    directions of devotions         لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنْسَكًا هُمْ نَاسِكُوهُ
Noun

(2:196:33) nusukin      devotion    فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ

(6:162:4) wanusukī      and my devotion          قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِي وَنُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Active participle

For every correctional process We have appointed direction of devotion which they devote for it. So, let not the strong desire / inclination cause to overcome you in the command [thoughts which provoke you to act], so call towards your Consciousness. Indeed, you are forever on seeking of guidance.

أُمَّةٍ- Ummat does not mean Nation, people or a community. The root word of Ummat is Umm - Imam, Ummat, Ummi and Um has common root word. In classical Arabic the root word carries its essence throughout the formation of derivatives that emerges out from the root words. But our translators are translating the Arabic script keeping the meanings of modern Arabic in mind.

In Modern Arabic

Umm – Mother

Imam – Leader

Ummat – Nation, people, community

Ummi – illiterate.

In Classical Arabic

Umm – Guide, mother, one who corrects

Imam – One who corrects, guides, lead

Ummat – A process which corrects or guides

Ummi – Self correction, guidance acquired by self efforts.

IS IT A SIN TO THINK INDEPENDENTLY?

It has often become a preferred method to label the free thinkers as atheist or people with no knowledge. Having a slightly different view from majority in the mainstream Islam is enough to be categorized as a traitor. Many people think that I am an atheist dressed up as a Muslim to bash Muslims. Is it a sin to think independently?

Or do you think that Muslims generally believe that "critical analysis of held traditional Islamic beliefs" is only done by non-Muslims to embarrass all Muslims?

Many of my friends say that we should not criticize publicly the faith in which we are born in because if we criticize our own faith, we provide material to the non Muslims haters to bash Muslims. There are black sheep in every religious community whose agenda is to spread hatred and feel superior about their own ideology and religion. But in my view, in the age of the IT revolution, if we liberal or moderate Muslims remain silent due to the fear that our data would be misused by Muslim haters then I think we are living in fool’s paradise. Truth should prevail at any cost. In fact we should become a beacon for all irrespective of the differences we may have with others. This is the time for all thinking Muslims to courageously come forward for the sake of humanity to show the world that there are muslims who for the sake of peace can face the firing squad from their own community. If we call ourselves Muslims then it becomes our duty to amend our community at this crucial juncture and respond to their immediate need to reform, and if we fail to do so I am sure our future generation would never forgive us.

I think the only true believer of any faith is one who questions everything. If you are not questioning, how can you be thinking? And if you are not thinking, how can you believe or to be more precise follow blindly?

Here we go ... the standard epithet hurled by the blind followers and the fear-mongering mullahs - Kaafir! Atheist! Did they spare one single thinking Muslim? The indian sub-continent scholars such as Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was accused of kufr, Iqbal was accused of kufr, all the thinking heads who rejected the prattle were declared atheists or ignorant. Irony is that they even accused Ghazali their Imam, of atheism because at the later stage of his life he made some critical analysis and for that he had to spend rest of his life in jail.

Anyone who chooses to use their brain in contemporary Islam is considered as an atheist according to these demented lunatics. If you keep chanting the prattle then you are golden.
Any correctional process leads to progress. We have all progressed in life. Then what is wrong in evaluating or analyzing our religious teachings. Throughout the world there is unrest and the cause is the belief system. If this system is the root cause of all the problems, then we definitely need to amend it. Our youngsters are brainwashed with the outdated defunct data. Any progressive society will always bring about changes and develop. Just adamantly sticking on to the stories and revering them will take us nowhere.

READ, and THINK, and CHALLENGE, and QUESTION! Every single one of us must do that. Question EVERYTHING. It is immaterial what answers you come up with as long as you are honest to yourself. But it is CRITICAL that every single Muslim must reason and think for themselves but the criteria should be unbiased and the aim should be to spread love for all and hatred for none. IF WE WANT TO SURVIVE AND SUSTAIN, WE NEED A MAJOR RE FORMATTING AT THE EARLIEST.

PEACE.

Excerpts from my incomplete book...

Excerpts from my incomplete book for your perusal, I felt like sharing with you all.

If you ask any Muslim “what are the constituents of ‘ISLAM’” - the almost usual answer shall be that “Islam” comprises of the divine book Al-Quran, God’s message to mankind and the Hadith, the traditions attributed to the prophet Muhammad. We have become so much used to this idea that we never make the slightest effort to find out if it is in accordance with logic or reality or for that matter even with the Quran, “the divine book of Muslims” they all hold dear. Even to look at slightly different direction from their idea or belief is considered an unpardonable sin. However there is one thing with which we all must agree that every religion must qualify on the basis of certainty and not on speculation or conjecture or belief or the consensus of majority.

“But most of them follow nothing but conjecture: conjecture is no substitute for facts. Verily God is well aware of all that they do.” - Yunus 10:36. – Traditional translation.

And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying. – 6:116 - TT

And when it is said to them, "Follow what Allah has revealed," they say, "Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing." Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided? – Al-Baqarah 2:170 - TT

Now we have to evaluate ourselves keeping the above verses in mind; whether we are on the side of majority who follow nothing but conjecture or we follow our fathers who understood nothing, nor were they guided. In both these cases, according to above verse of Quran we are misguided or on the wrong path. One thing is clear from the Quran’s point of view that we don’t have to follow the herd mentality by following the majority; neither should we follow our fathers / family or what the scholar understands.

The people who call themselves as Quran alone followers blindly follow translations either based on Hadith based dictionaries or shaan-e-Nuzool or on some preconceived concept of some scholars rather than applying their own common sense by referring the lexicons of the language in which Quran is revealed. It is common sense that if we want to translate any book or an article of foreign language in local language we would refer to the dictionaries and grammar book of those language. But when it comes to translating Arabic Quran the irony is that we refer to stories written by Persians adversaries whose hidden agenda was to confine the meaning of Arabic words in order to distort the wonderful message of the Arabic Quran.

The first step to know the truth is to know or recognize falsehood. If we are content with our beliefs then we won’t to able to think beyond our beliefs. Our sensual organs won’t entertain the new information or line of thinking to make an impression on our already established beliefs.

If you were raised in a belief system where accepting new idea is categorically denied, you need to come to terms with that. Your mind is going to block any attempts of getting anything new which clashes with your already established beliefs because you’ve been programmed to believe that there is no other truth other than your own belief. And we are very confident about it. In order to accept new thinking we have to clean the old beliefs; we cannot fill a cup which is already full.

I finally figured it out why “Muslims don't understand Quran.

They believe that Quran is a very complicated text which needs knowledge of several sciences and that can be only decoded by prophet and his companions or those scholars who have graduated from religious school called madrasa.

Their “Scholars” have told them that if they pronounce the Arabic words properly it is sufficient, and this art of tajweed can enchant Allah their deity. And in return He can fulfill all their wishes; as a result they to do nothing except work on their tajweed and memorization of verses. Total emphasize is on pronunciation [Tajweed] as little mistake in pronunciation can fail their plan to please Allah. It is like a secret magic spell that is very hard to pronounce so they are always working on their pronunciation or recitation to open the gates of “paradise”.

Some are disheartened by the fact that they cannot pronounce and understand the Quran by themselves so it is better to copy their scholar’s work so they avoid it and follow a translated version of Quran combined with Hadith, Sunna and Tafsir.

So when you ask them, "Did you read, understand the Quran?" Their reply always will be, "yes”, but the fact is they have understood what their scholars have interpreted. They accept it blindly with no intention to verify them, in other words, there's no need for Quran now or understand the Quran independently.

So when you tell them that "your elders got it wrong" they are ready to insult you, kill you, hurt you in any way they can. They think that by doing so they are defending Quran but the fact is they don’t know anything about Quran and actually they are defending their respective scholar’s perspective of the Quran.

If we are rejecting everything then the million dollar question is - then what and how to follow the Quran?

Follow, what has been revealed to you from your Consciousness [Rabb] and do not follow besides Him any Aulia [protecting friends]. Little do you heed? Al-A’raaf 7:3

Being an ardent fan of the Quran, my job became more rigorous and challenging after knowing that I cannot follow the majority plus the elders and the friends or teachers because they follows only conjecture and they are away from the facts. After knowing this I realized that finding the right path is a lone journey and majority from the community, family and friends will always be adverse to this path. Now the problem is how to know the right path without even following any teacher or authority or Aulia? Wali is singular of Aulia, which means authority, command over, superintendent, commander governor, Judge, magistrate etc. The above verse of the Quran alludes that we just have to follow our Rabb; our collective consciousness which is not easy and very little or small or few could actually be able to heed it. In fact the word قَلِيلاً in verse 7:3 represents very few or near to one; one of its meaning is top most part of the mountain. In simple words the Quran is actually instructing us to use our own mind or inherent script [Al-Kitab] but it’s the most difficult thing to do. The easiest part is to get influenced by someone or follow some readymade information without getting involved in the difficult process of thinking.

How to follow our Rabb / Consciousness? And who will teach that?
As regards to “Quran” it has been repeatedly said:

Surah Ar-Rehman 55:1- 4

(1) The Greatest Self Nourisher (Rehman). (2) It is He who taught the Quran. (3) He has evolved the one who socialize. (4) He has taught him to distinguish….

Surah Al-Qiyamah 75: 17-19

(17) Indeed! It is upon Us to assess it and to express it (18) So when it is expressed, then follow its expression (19) Then indeed! It is upon us to explain it.

Relying totally on the above verses I made Rehman as my teacher and began my journey to understand the essence of the Noble Quran. I just followed the inspiration I got from my Rabb / Consciousness (6:106) (7:203) (10:15) (10:109) (12:109) (18:27) (33:2) (34:50). Quran is the messenger or the word of the messenger (69:40-43) (81:19) who is talking to us through all these verses that we have to follow the inspiration from our Rabb.

Now it was a challenge for me to find out the answers to all my valid doubts which were troubling me. The Rabb helped me in finding all my queries without getting influenced from any other text or source other than the Quran. Nevertheless I took the help of the classical dictionaries of the Arabic language to understand the right essence of the meaning of the words while I relied mainly on the context to create the right essence of the message. This may sound foolish or complacent, but trust me it is only possible if we shut off all the external and internal voices and let the Rehman inside us nourish us by speaking to us (78:37 - 38), that moment is the real establishment of Salat or connection. The process of salat is very tough (2:45) and every creature is aware of this, including birds and animals (24:41) but unfortunately very few among us know how to connect with their Rabb. Serious obedience is the only way to get connected with the Rabb.

I know you will find my book and the interpretation of the verses of the Quran very peculiar because it is different from normal presentation. Nobody in my knowledge has attempted to explain the Quran in a way which will make every thinking Muslims to think again and again about their beliefs. I request the reader to please read the book slowly as each and every chapter is important and complete the book before coming to any conclusion.

While interpreting the verses of the Quran, for me the context of the message and sequence of the verses is of utmost importance. All the meanings and the root words were decided after studying thoroughly the context and the theme of the subject of each chapter plus the theme of the entire Quran.

It is important to bear in mind while reading this book that this is a non fictional book. Any comparison with other reputed book of the same genre may confuse you as this book has a complete new understanding and approach to understand Quran. This book has the potential to change one’s thought process if the reader reads it with an open mind and thinks for himself without taking help of any conventional resources. Quran is the book of wisdom, it’s the book of insight it’s the book which can make the difference to your life.

Please note – this effort is made in order to generalize the message of the Quran to the entire mankind and to clear many misconceptions related to this noble book called Quran. The message of the Quran deals with human psychology but the clerics of Islamic religion have restricted this book to Arab traditional stories and their rituals, thus depriving the world of its immense classical knowledge in the field of psychology.

SURAH 3 Aal-i-Imraan [1-10]

سورة آل عمران

Aal-i-Imraan | 200 verses | The Family of Imraan | Sura #3

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

1 الم

Refer 2:1

2 اللَّهُ لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ

The Allah is no ilah [the one which we serve or adore] except / but Him [Rabb], the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence.

The Allah is not an ilah, our ilah is actually system of Consciousness which is termed as Allah an attribute of Rabb [Consciousness] and Quran also termed it as Samad [nothing for Him everything is for others as He is independent and tends to serve all without expecting anything from others].

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَـٰهَ - Nominative case - Allah is not god but the system of consciousness.

3 نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَنزَلَ التَّوْرَاةَ وَالْإِنجِيلَ

He has lodged / settled upon you, the script with facts, speaking with the facts what was clearly within his means, accepted before it. And He descended the Torah [a guidance / instruction which is given time and again] and the Injeel [guidance and light 5:46].

4 مِن قَبْلُ هُدًى لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَنزَلَ الْفُرْقَانَ ۗ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ ذُو انتِقَامٍ

Accepted before, as guidance for the agitated / restless minds. And He descended the Fur'qan [Criterion]. Indeed, those who are ignorant with the signs of Allah [system of consciousness] will have a severe chastisement, and Allah is exalted in Might, the Owner of Retribution.

5 إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَخْفَىٰ عَلَيْهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ

Indeed, from Allah [system of consciousness] nothing is hidden in the lower consciousness nor in the higher consciousness.

6 هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَوِّرُكُمْ فِي الْأَرْحَامِ كَيْفَ يَشَاءُ ۚ لَا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
It is He who formed you in the wombs however He desires. There is no ilah [the one which serve or adore] except Him [Rabb], the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

It is He who has descended upon you, Al-Kitab [the script]; in it are Ayaats [that are] judgmental or wise- they are the crux of Al-Kitab - and others are similar / copied (ayats/signs). As for those in whose intellect is deviation, they will follow / copy that of it which is similar /copied, and seeking an interpretation by experimentation or trail [Fitna]. And no one knows its interpretation except Allah [system of consciousness]. But those firms in knowledge say, "We feel peace and security with it. All [of these] are from our Rabb." And no one will reflect except those are foremost in understanding.

8 رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً ۚ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ
"Our Lord, let not our hearts / intellect deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself self nourishment. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

9 رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ النَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

Our Rabb [Consciousness], surely You will settle the agitated minds for a moment, there is no doubt in it. Indeed, Allah [system of consciousness] does never supersede in His promise."

10 إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَن تُغْنِيَ عَنْهُمْ أَمْوَالُهُمْ وَلَا أَوْلَادُهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا ۖ وَأُولَـٰئِكَ هُمْ وَقُودُ النَّارِ

Indeed, those who conceal / suppress [their thoughts] - never will be free from wants about them, their inclination or what they have brought forth into existence is from Allah's [system of consciousness] desire. And it is they who are fuel for the Fire.

AL-BAQRA [1-29] – THE PROCESS OF INQUIRY AND RESEARCH TO THE UTMOST

سورة البقرة – SURAH - 2

AL-BAQRA – THE PROCESS OF INQUIRY AND RESEARCH TO THE UTMOST

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

1   الٓمٓ

A stroke resembling a madda is generally put above abbreviations. Thus ALM [الم]is most probably a short form [الاختصار] of Surah Al-Fateha. Alphabets ا ل م are the most recurring alphabets in Surah Al-Fateha, this also strongly indicates that ALM is a symbol of Surah Fateha. Abbreviations are formed or derived by selecting the initial letters of the word or the phrase. The use of this acronym reflected a tendency of those narrators to economize in time and space especially at a time when the writing tools were primitive and hard to use. To save the time and space, writers tend to use abbreviations to avoid frequently repeated words or phrases and even passages particularly in written discourse.

Surah Fateha has many attributes, each one indicating a different aspect of its meaning. In the eyes of Arabs if a thing is recognized by many different labels or names, that is the indication of its predominant significance. Some names of surah Fateha are [Al-Fateha, Ummal-Quran, Ummal Kitab, Sab'ul Mathani, Al-Hamd, As-Salah [The Connection], Ash-Shifa, Ar-Ruqyah (The Ascent), Asasal-Quran (The Foundation), Al-Kanz (The Treasure), Ash-Shukr, Ad-Dua, Ash-Shafiyah (The Restoration), Al-Kafiyah [The Sufficient], Al-Wafiyah (The Compact / Covenant) ].... ALIF LAAM MEEM is repeated 6 times in the entire Quran. In short ALM or surah Fateha is a concise message of the entire Quran, which continuouss reminds us about the Rabbul Alameen and Maliki Yaumi Deen and seeratal mustaqeem, that's why surah Fateha is also known as Ummal Quran & Ummal Kitab.

In short Surah Fateha is a concise prescription of Al-Kitab which gives lot of information of our Rabb [Consciousness] in a nutshell and vividly explains it through 114 chapters of the Quran.

2   ذَ‌ٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

That is the  PRESCRIPTION, no doubt in it are guidance for those who guard their thoughts [Those who take precaution, about what thoughts they are entertaining]-

[The KITAB also is an inherent script [2:44, 2:121, 2:129, 2:146, 2:151, 2:231, 3:164] and it is not easy to follow the script unless you are Mutaqi = diligent / cautious / prudent / conscious / [those who guard their thoughts]

ذَ‌ٰلِكَ - masculine singular demonstrative pronoun but it also signifies or points to some events of the past. For example that night, that time, that event etc. Here ذَ‌ٰلِكَ is pointing to some scripted records of the past which is stored in our subconscious mind that is referred to as Al-Kitab in the Quranic context. In it are guidance for those who are extremely cautious or mindful or conscious. Our subconscious mind has virtually unlimited memory bank. It permanently stores everything that ever happens to us. Everything is written in it [6:38] and its a clear a guide [Imam] and we will be judged according to the record of our book as it drives our every action [17:71] [36:12].

It is very important to understand the word Al-Kitab / Kitab - الْكِتَابُ - Zalikal-Kitab in this context means - The Pre-scripted, chronicle, the script, text - something which is already written or decreed or recorded or programmed. Al-Kitab in Quranic context does not mean a physical book written on leaves, leather or paper, the Al of Kitab points to something more precise and specific. Kitab is an inherent script which discusses us or in which we are mentioned [21:10] embedded in all of us and can be recalled or recollected through Zikr [29:45] - the inherent messengers convey it in our own language [14:4] - The meaning of Tilawat is [تَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ 2:44] to follow, imitate, study, walk behind, rehearse, accompany. -حَقَّ تِلاَوَتِهِ - is achieved only when we study, copy, walk behind, rehearse and accompany the Kitab 24x7. This what Haq Tilawat of Al-Kitab means 2:121 - Note the word Tilawat does not mean to read but it means to walk the talk [To perform actions consistent with one's claims]. Prescriptions are not for just reading purpose, they are to be followed persistently. And we all should, understand, study, talk and consult with our sub-conscious mind as it treasures the greatest exemplary lessons for all time.

3  الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

Those who feel safe/secure with the unseen [that which is existing in thoughts or as a sense, its existence can only be felt or experienced but physically it is absent 21:49] and they themselves establishes the process of connection [salat] and from what we have provided spend on themselves.

الصَّلَاةَ - process of connection - root word is وص ل - accusative feminine noun

Salat is a thought process or a medium which connects us with our consciousness [Rabb] and our inherent book [Al-Kitab] - Salat prevents us from doing anything out our book [29:45] - This is done by the help of righteous thoughts & conciliatory deeds - The opposite of Salat is Shawaat (lusty / vying / desirous thoughts) - because of shahwaat [vying thoughts] we get distracted or out of focus and we lose get disconnected with our connection [SALAT] - without righteous thoughts & peace making deeds and we won't be able to enter the garden of knowledge [Al-Jannah] - [19:59-60] - Those who have reconciliatory nature [Ammale-saulehaat] will have their reward from their Consciousness [2:62], that's why we are often reminded to establish the thought process called salat.

4   وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِالْآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ

And when they meet those who feel safe/secure, they say, "We feel secure/safe"; but when they are alone with their untruthful ones [satan], they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were just seeking to mock."

The astonishment almost snatches away their insight. Every time it lights by itself for them, they walk in it; but when it bring darkness [injustice] upon them, they stand still. أَضَاءَ - form IV imperfect verb

أَظْلَمَ - form IV perfect verb

يُؤْمِنُونَ - يُقِيمُونَ - تُفْسِدُو - آمَنُوا - الْمُفْسِدُونَ - يُبْصِرُونَ - آمَنَ - These words and many more which occurred in the above verses are form iv verbs, this is one of the most frequent form of verb used in the entire Quran - I have highlighted this FORM IV verb because of its importance. This form has the meaning of : - He made himself do or perform an action. A reflexive causative, i.e. he made himself do something to transform a place or a state. Whenever any action occurs or caused by the efforts of self or by itself and makes an impact on self or transforms the self, FORM IV verb is used.

The book Quran gives more emphasis on our own action, self responsibility, self accountability, self experiencing, self understanding, knowledge of self, carrying our own burden and dealing with the consequences of our own action. The book Quran give importance to SELF; whatever we do for others actually we do it for our own sake or for our own happiness or to satisfy our own Consciousness. We are the main beneficiaries of our actions whether we do it for others or for our own-selves - Wrong actions leads to bad consequence which our own soul has to bear. To expressed this feeling or idea of how self action effects mainly the self or cause the self to influence any person / place / state FORM IV verb is used. SELF action and its consequence on SELF is the main message of the book Quran. SELF is the primary brick of a healthy society, without SELF we cannot dream of the healthy society. Group of individuals can make a healthy or a sick society; societies cannot make good individuals; it is individuals who mold good societies. Muslim is a quality of one who is mentally sound and secure person; its not a name of any community.

 21 يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

O agitated / restless minds, serve your Consciousness, the one who has evolved you and the one who has accepted you, that you may be due diligent / thoughtful -

22 الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فِرَاشًا وَالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقًا لَّكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ أَندَادًا وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

The One Who made for you the Lower consciousness developmental and the Higher consciousness a natural constitution and caused to sent down from the higher consciousness reflection and caused to brought forth with it from increased intelligence a provision for you. And if you are in doubt from what We have revealed on Our service provider, then produce/bring with powerful influence from it's similarity and invoke your testimony from weaker Allah [system of consciousness], if you are truthful.

نَزَّلْنَا - form II perfect verb

عَبْدِنَا - our servant signifies one who understand & serves the consciousness. Note all are not the servant /service provider of their consciousness because they do not understand the needs of their inner self so serving it is out of question. Majority of us look outside and are prone to temptations and seek help from weaker systems rather than repairing our own self. Here servant can also mean mind because it serves the Consciousness [Rabb]

دُونِ اللَّهِ - all other systems which are weaker than the system of consciousness [Allah] -  دُونِ  means weak according to lexicon.

24 فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا وَلَن تَفْعَلُوا فَاتَّقُوا النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ ۖ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِينَ

And sensible thoughts [Bashar] are those who trust / believe in themselves and stimulate to do righteous deeds, that for them is Jannat [Garden of the knowledge we possessed covered with guidance] beneath which the enlightenment flow. Whenever they are provided with a sustenance from the process of increased intellect therefrom, they will say, "This is which we were nourished due to ability to accept." And it is given with it which is being similarly imagined. And for them in it are process of purified companions [pure thoughts], and they will abide / remain in it.

Indeed, Allah [system of consciousness] does not shy away to strike an example even of a trivial / small matter or something above it. Then as for those who chose to feel safe/secure, they will know that it is the fact from their Consciousness. But as for those who have chose to camouflage/cover/pretend [remain ignorant], they say, "What did Allah [system of consciousness] intend by this as an example?" He lets go astray with this and guides many with it. And He does not misleads with it except the one who declines the fact [deviated from his Consciousness].

The system of consciousness put forth many simple examples before mankind which seems of little value or importance but there are very few who are guided by such illustrations and majority is misled by it because they do not recognize the facts.

How can you remain hidden / pretend with Allah [system of consciousness] when you were lifeless [without sense] and you were brought to life; then you let yourself to die, then you emerge / came to life, and then to Him you will repeatedly returning.
