Pakistan Doctor Who Helped Capture Bin Laden Sentenced To 33 Years UPDATE:

If there was any doubt that Pakistan knew about and harbored Osama Bin Laden for all those years in Abbottabad, set those doubts aside, because it's quite obvious they sympathized with one of the world's most infamous terrorists. They've always shown anger and disapproval over the killing of Bin Laden, and now they've sentenced Shakil Afridi, the doctor who was instrumental in capturing Bin Laden, to 33 years in jail for high treason. A man who should have been honored for helping rid the world of an incredibly evil man is instead being severely punished.

According to a Pakistani official, Nasir Khan, he has also been fined around $3,500, and if he doesn't pay up 3 1/2 years will be added to his sentence.

The U.S., of course, has asked for his release, and the State Department's Victoria Nuland said of the situation,

“Our views on it haven’t changed. We continue to see no basis for Dr. Afridi to be held,” Nuland said. “We will continue to make those representations to the government of Pakistan.”

When asked why she only referred to Afridi’s charges and did not acknowledge his actual conviction and sentencing, Nuland said: “It’s not clear that the legal process is over, OK? There may be other options for him legally.”

Since Afridi was charged with treason last year, the U.S. has been trying to get Pakistan to allow the good doctor and his family to come to the states, obviously to no avail. John McCain-R and Carl Levin-D of the Senate Ared Services Committee both have called the sentence "shocking and outrageous" and want him pardoned and released immediately.

“Dr. Afridi’s continuing imprisonment and treatment as a criminal will only do further harm to U.S.-Pakistani relations, including diminishing Congress’s willingness to provide financial assistance to Pakistan,” they warned.

Not that Pakistan cares. They've been pulling the proverbial fleece over our eyes for years, pretending to be allies when they're really not. They're no better than the terrorists they seem to aid and abet.

UPDATE: 5/31/12  Now Pakistan is claiming it had nothing to do with his CIA affiliation, but rather his alleged ties to militants.  Like that's believable.

Veterans Slam Obama For Politicizing Bin Laden Kill

More backlash from Obama's "One Chance" campaign ad video where he insinuates Mitt Romney would not have taken out Osama Bin Laden had he been president. Arianna Huffington called it despicable. Dan Turner of the L.A. Times says the ad is "more than little distasteful" for taking Romney's comment "It's not worth moving heaven and Earth and spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person" out of context. But veterans, and even former and active duty U.S. Navy SEALS (the ones who were responsible for dispensing with Bin Laden), have also chimed in criticizing Obama for politicizing the whole event.
A serving SEAL Team member said: ‘Obama wasn’t in the field, at risk, carrying a gun. As president, at every turn he should be thanking the guys who put their lives on the line to do this. He does so in his official speeches because he speechwriters are smart.

‘But the more he tries to take the credit for it, the more the ground operators are saying, “Come on, man!” It really didn’t matter who was president. At the end of the day, they were going to go.’

Chris Kyle, a former SEAL sniper with 160 confirmed and another 95 unconfirmed kills to his credit, said: ‘The operation itself was great and the nation felt immense pride. It was great that we did it.

‘But bin Laden was just a figurehead. The war on terror continues. Taking him out didn’t really change anything as far as the war on terror is concerned and using it as a political attack is a cheap shot.

‘In years to come there is going to be information that will come out that Obama was not the man who made the call. He can say he did and the people who really know what happened are inside the Pentagon, are in the military and the military isn’t allowed to speak out against the commander- in-chief so his secret is safe.’

As some have said, including Romney, presented with the same opportunity any president would have done exactly what Obama did, he just lucked out that it happened on his watch.

In response, Veterans For A Strong America have taken out their own powerful ad entitled "CREDIT".

Obama's Bin Laden Ad "Despicable" Says HuffPo's Arianna Huffington

Since the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden is the only real major accomplishment of Barack Obama's 3 plus year's in office, it's obvious he would try to capitalize on that achievement. Had he been smart, he would have simply bragged about dispensing with the most wanted man on earth during his tenure in his campaign ads. But no, he had to copy Hillary Clinton's  3 a.m. phone call ad, which obviously did her no good.
He obviously misjudged how people would react to his Bin Laden ad (his version of  the "3 a.m. call"), which calls into question whether Mitt Romney would have had the cojones to order the raid.  And when queen of the liberal blogosphere Arianna Huffington, of the Huffington Post, calls it "despicable", you know he made a huge mistake.
Appearing on CBS News, Arianna Huffington said there should not be an ad questioning whether presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney would’ve ordered the raid against the Al-Qaeda leader last year.
“I don’t think there should be an ad about that,” Huffington told CBS News. “I think it’s one thing to celebrate the fact that they did such a great job (with television specials). All that is perfectly legitimate. But to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do.”
The new web video questions whether Romney would have taken the same path Obama did. It features a quote from a 2007 Romney interview in which he said it was not worth “moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person.”

“(The ad) quotes a snippet from Romney and uses that to imply that Romney would not has been as decisive,” Huffington told CBS News. “There’s no way to know whether Romney would have been as decisive. To actually speculate that he wouldn’t be is, to me, not the way to run a campaign, on either side.”
Not that we can assume this means Romney has Huffington's vote. I sincerely doubt it, but it's interesting she bothered to criticize Obama for that misstep.
Romney's camp obviously chimed in as well calling the video divisive:
“It’s now sad to see the Obama campaign seek to use an event that unified our country to once again divide us, in order to distract voters’ attention from the failures of his administration,” Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said.
Jay Carney (White House spokesman) naturally defended their tactic:
“I think the way that we’ve handled it represents exactly the balance you need to strike.”
Of course, this won't make any difference to those who still adore the president, and there are many who still do.

Jihad A Family Affair- Wife of al Qaida's #2 Henchman Calls On Women To Join Jihad

How heart-warming, Jihad is becoming a family affair. Al Qaida has been recruiting men and their male children, and now their wives are being called into action by none other than the wife of Osama Bin Laden's number 2 henchman, Ayman al-Zawahiri. So now, instead of being asked to stand by their men by giving birth to and raising Jihadi babies and donating money, the women are being asked to join in the fun. Although unverified, Umaima Hassan posted her message on the internet- apparently the first time an al Qaida wife has encouraged others to fight and/or blow themselves up- telling women it was an "obligation" to fight. She did add that it would challenging since

"Fighting is not easy for women, because she needs a male guardian at her side."

I guess making it a family project would deal with that issue quite well.

NBC News counterterrorism analyst, Evan Kohlmann, said Umaima

wrote specifically of "martyrdom" and "how many sisters carried out a martyrdom operation in Palestine, Iraq and Chechnya, and caused the enemy high costs and caused the enemy a big defeat. We ask from Allah to accept them and connect us with them with goodness."

Kohlmann seems to think there might be a shortage of jihadi fighting machines, hence the call for female participation. My question is, if women go off to fight, who is going to raise the next generation of jihadis? Not that I care. Maybe Umaima and the whole family (along with all her friends and relatives) will strap on bombs and get blown up together. That would solve the al Qaida problem quite nicely.

"Umaima? Yo Mama!"
